Here's Why We Might Not Answer Your Phone Call
Even though we really really want to hear from you
Recently, Canada's telecommunications regulator, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), took steps to prevent nuisance phone calls that are unsolicited and illegitimate. These kinds of calls are more than annoying. They can lead to many citizens being fooled into giving up their hard-earned money.
Telephone scams stole an estimated 24 million dollars from Canadians in the first 10 months of 2019.
The CRTC has implemented systems that will block calls showing numbers with more than 15 digits or numbers that can't actually be dialed such as 000-000-0000. These calls will no longer make your phone ring. However, all the calls that come from blatantly fake numbers, and worse, the calls that look like they come from real numbers ( such as federal government departments ) but are actually scammers in disguise, won't be blocked. At least not yet. The CRTC hopes that the technology will be in place to block these kinds of calls as well, but it won't be until September 2020. Read more about their plans on CBC here.
Until then, our phones will continue to ring and ring as fraudsters attempt to fool us into giving up our money and time. Here at Goodwin Creative Ltd., we can receive over a dozen of these every day. Sometimes they have recordings (lots of calls from 'Google') sometimes I'm connected to people from around the world trying to sell us products or solicit our patronage, often I get a simple hangup.
The result is, we don't answer the phone every time it rings. We watch for 604 prefixes but even those will often be spoofs. I received two just this hour.
But what if you are a legitimate customer who wants to talk about an amazing new website?
Here are ways to make sure Goodwin Creative will get your call.
1. Leave a Message
We check our messages every day. We invite you to leave us a message!
2. Text us
You could send us a text letting us know that you are planning to call. We'll answer your call!
3. Email us admin@goodwincreative.ca
Send us an email and we can schedule a phone call.
4. New! Online Phone Call Appointment Booking
In 2020 we will be setting up an appointment booking system on our website. You can pick a time that is convenient for you, leave your phone number, and we will call you! Save on long distance changes and discuss your new project at a time when you are ready.
Don't you love technology?
We'll be instituting this new system in January 2020 and we look forward to talking with you!
